"It was a great two years of touring and the last album is something I am very proud. You just have to constantly work hard. You can take a short break, but you cannot take too much time, “Phillips said in a recent telephone interview from New York, where he works on his next album.” I will continue to work hard because not too many people this kind of occasion, be able to earn a living as a musician.

"I 'm very lucky and it was a lot of fun.”

Life has been a whirlwind for Phillips after his victory over American Idol. Welcome, singing the coronation of Fox reality series, was released in May 2012 and immediately struck a chord with fans. It was certified quadruple platinum for sales of four million copies.

Powered by the success of the home, the world side of the Moon reached # 4 on Billboard and was certified platinum (one million copies sold).

Given the magnitude of American Idol - Alumni exposure includes Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Katharine McPhee, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry - it is often assumed success of the show guarantees a successful career.

This is certainly not the case - just ask the likes of Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Taylor Hicks and Lee DeWyze. As for Phillips, he realized that American Idol has opened a door for him, but it was what he did with that opportunity.

“Idol was a great platform, but when it's done, it's done,"
said Phillips, whose tour that leads to Rogers Arena in Vancouver tonight. “You must work hard in the future. This is not as many people think, where everything is just handed to you.... I've always had to work for what I wanted, and I still do. For the last two years I have had the opportunity to do many amazing things. "

Yes, Phillips has done a lot of amazing things since winning Idol. In addition to opening tours for John Mayer and Matchbox 20, he appeared at the Rock In Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro, commissioned Thurs 2012 Major League Baseball All- Star and World Series as well as a benefit concert Hurricane Sandy.

Despite these appearances, Phillips says he still gets nervous before going on stage.

“Oh my God, I'm afraid of death whenever I have to play, “Phillips said.”I always get nervous because you never know what to expect. Crowds could be terrible or it could be amazing. You never know what you'll get until you get there and they do. I just do my best and have fun.

"I 'm nervous, but once I get a guitar and start a song, after the first few seconds, I can feel relief. I do not have to worry about anything other than music anything. "
Currently putting the finishing touches to her second album - the first single, Raging Fire, were released on March 3 - Phillips works to maintain the momentum of The World side of the stage. Phillips wrote or co- wrote nine of the album 12 tracks and is heavily involved in writing for the new record.

While his fans - he has 684,000 followers on Twitter and more than a million tastes of his Face book page - waiting for the new album, Phillips has a small warning for them on the essence of the disc.

"It's a little heavier, a little darker, not every song, but I 'm very happy for her," said Phillips. “The new songs are really great, but yes, some are a little different.”
